Getting ready for next season

Some experimentation is needed to see what will work and what doesn't. With summer short and brutal, getting new plantings into the real world outside takes a good amount of time so that the young plants have a shot at surviving.  Since the catastrophic wet failure of the clay soil this summer of 2020, although drained, it was still too wet - hence just parts of plants survived giving the overall field a thumbs down in looks. Trying a raised bed with a mixture of sand and soils this autumn will prove that lavender can be grown and raised in this sunny location.  The young plants will be covered with a special white, light and breathable cover that protects against frost.  Although the snows will squish the plantings, they should regain their shape again in the late spring.
